In The Booth: LCAW

One night behind the decks with prolific young German producer, LCAW.

With his debut Australiasin tour set to commence at the end of this month, fast-rising Germany-based producer LCAW comes stacked with over 25 miilions plays on his Soundcloud, featuring remixes of the likes of ZHU, London Grammar and Cat Power. By age 3 Leon Weber was already learning the piano and cello and after picking up drums at 6, it's no wonder he's taken to production with aplomb. We asked him for a rough guide to what we can expect from an LCAW DJ set, and you can check those out below, followed by his Australasian tour dates:

Take us through a typical set with LCAW:

What track are we opening up with?

I like to start with something groovy and funky that catches the audiences’ attention from the first second on. When you play internationally the music taste of the people that come to your shows vary drastically but I feel like a groovy track in the start is something for everybody. For the last couple of shows I started with Gregory Porter - Liquid Spirit (Claptone Remix), it’s the perfect all-rounder, from there on you can go in almost every direction and surprise the crowd.

You’re miles away from home and you want to show some love for your homeland Which friend’s work are you gonna play?

Ferdinand Weber is a good friend from Munich and he just officially released his bomb What, which works on almost every crowd, really like to play that one. Other than that I got a lot of love to show for my producer friends in Berlin, for example there is almost no set which doesn’t include Listen by Chopstick & Johnjon.

The audience are well-oiled, now it’s time to really grab them. What track is going to do it?

Sir Felix - Hope (Nora En Pure Remix). After a more chilled start this track is perfect to really grab the audience with Nora’s heavy baseline to slowly take the set to a deeper level.

You’ve got ‘em now, got a track show off how deep your taste goes?

Once you’ve tickled their waists you can really hit them with Format: B - Chunky, such a banger.

Energy levels are waning slightly, what’s a fail safe pick me up – either for yourself, or the crowd?

Sirens Of Lesbos - Long Days, Hot Nights (Claptone Remix), also quite the all-rounder that can save the night.

We’re on the home stretch, what’s a brand new track you’re going to test out?

My unreleased official remix for Fritz Kalkbrenner that will be released on Suol Records this July. People have shown good reactions to it so far and I’m confident it will go well.

It’s time for a breather, got a track with some real emotional feels?

This would be Chet Faker - I’m Into You (Monkeyneck Remix), he really did some magical work on the remix.

Good night all and thanks for coming – what track are you going to leave everyone with?

I like to end my sets in a similiar style in which I started them, so again some groovy and funky tracks. Something like Nhan Solo - Tell Me or Simion - Give You Love (The Piano). Good night and thanks for dancing!
