Premiere: Newcastle's PALS share new single Somehow, announce AU tour

Arriving as the first song from the group's forthcoming new EP, the track also comes with a trio of shows next month.

Over the last few years, we've really come to love some of the heavier sounds emerging from Newcastle, with Novocastrians such as RAAVE TAPES and Vacations - who both fall under the No-Fi Collective group alongside the act we're spotlighting today - bringing the ruckus with high-energy guitar riffs and a distinctly Newcastle flavour that really put these groups in their own fields. No different is PALS, the four-piece who within the last few years, have quickly caught a fair amount of attention themselves: 2017's In-Between for example, being twelve tracks that really welcomed national attention.

In the time since, PALS have continually proved that they're something exciting within Australian rock, whether it be the handful of singles that have littered their past year - Consumed and Somewhere New last year - or how they're looking forwards into the future, doing so with the first taste of a new EP arriving next year, titled Somehow.

Coming in at a long-winding four minutes, Somehow is a song that demonstrates PALS' masterful songwriting within the punky rock world, opening with a solid minute of guitar prowess that opens the gates for quite a heavy song for the group. In saying that, while the single's choruses bite with particular ferocity, there are times where the single strips right back too: stripped-away guitar chords and the band's hazy vocals united in a moment that displays their versatility and showcases how they're able to move between a song's natural dips and rises.

There's plenty more to come, with Somehow - as mentioned - being the first taste of a greater EP to come, but for now, dive into Somehow below ahead of its release this Friday and catch them on a couple of east coast tour dates across the next month:

Tour Dates:

November 8 | Potts Point Hotel, Sydney | Presented by Week. End Club
November 16 | Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle | Presented by No-Fi Collective
November 23 | Dicey Rileys Hotel, Wollongong | Presented by Yours & Owls
