Australia’s premier purveyors of neo-soul and all things smooth Hiatus Kaiyote have blessed us with their first new music in a few years, the uplifting sounds of Everything’s Beautiful, said to be the first taste of a “forthcoming project”.

Described as “a musical affirmation in celebration of life's infinite possibilities”, Everything’s Beautiful pairs funky guitar licks and jazzy, groovy basslines with swung drums and the occasional shimmering synth and flourishing flute sounds, all punctuated by Nai Palm’s iconic vocals.

Nai Palm explains “'Everything’s Beautiful' is a testament to the importance of finding simple joy in your day. To me, my happy place is walking around exploring the world with my headphones. I wanted to write something very simple without complex, deep philosophical meaning like most of my writing tends to be. I wrote the vocal melody and general bass riff in a dream napping on my manager Scott Barkham’s couch in New York one day, and brought it into the waking world which is really hard to do for me. Initially, the dream hook was Berry Street beautiful, but I changed the lyrics when I developed it more with the band. It’s not the delusion that we live in a utopia out here on this planet, but rather about actively looking for the beauty, grace and joy in life.

To celebrate, Hiatus Kaiyote will be playing a special free show in Melbourne tonight at The Evelyn - but for those not in Naarm, the gig will be live streamed on HK’s Youtube channel. Next month they’ll be joined by The Dreamboat Orchestra for a very special one night only at Melbourne's iconic Hamer Hall, with orchestral arrangements by Miguel Atwood Fergsuon. Nai Palm will also be in Perth on Sunday March 3, supporting Sampha at Perth Festival.
