Pilerats Screening Giveaway: Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton is a biopic telling the story of the rise to prominence of one of rap's "most dangerous groups", California's the N.W.A., fronted by Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and Dr. Dre (yet, the same Dr. Dre who heads up Beats By Dre!). Taking us back to where it all began, 1987, Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how these cultural rebels - armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent - stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down, channelling their frustration and anger about the injustices of life in the hood into the powerful weapon they had: their music. The N.W.A. revolutionised music and pop culture forever and ignited a social revolution whose echoes can still be heard today.

Whether you're a die-hard N.W.A. fan, whether you're into rap now but ain't so familiar with the N.W.A., whether you dont' give a rats' about rap but are intrigued by the history of race relations and the socio-economic history of America, or whether you just love a damn good flick, Straight Outta Compton is essential viewing. Straight Outta Compton hits Aussie cinemas September 3, however Pilerats is mega excited to be hosting a special preview screening for our readers, in conjunction with Universal on Wed Aug 19, three weeks before it opens!
