Premiere: Lost Woods take on a more low-key sound with new single, Bern

The Adelaide indie-rock crew lower the tempo and up the emotions on their newie, while also announcing a national tour.

Adelaide indie-pop-rock ensemble Lost Woods are a band that have almost floated past our radar over the past few years, but that hasn't stopped them from finding their footings in an indie-rock scene that sometimes can feel a touch crowded and over-done. Ever since their initial work back in 2016, the group have toured with the likes of Holy Holy and Alice Ivy, released a self-titled debut EP, and even copped a top position in the Vanda and Young songwriting competition, a prestigious Australian music award that counts Megan Washington (2009), Kimbra (2011), The Preatures (2013), Gretta Ray (2016) and Amy Shark (2018) as past winners.

After a brilliant two-peat of charming singles in 2018 - Cinnamon and My Amazon - today we're stoked to finally jump on board the Lost Woods train with their first release for 2019 in Bern, a shimmering, down-tempo affair that sees the group lower the energy in favour of something more tender and emotional. Drawing comparisons to the soothing sounds of No Mono (an act that has become one of our favourites in the past few years), Bern is a single that highlights the charming falsetto of frontman Peter White, with his vocal soaring and twisting above a subdued, stripped-back instrumental more-so on the folk side-of-things that allows the vocal to truly flourish without any distractions. "Bern tackles the struggle of giving someone up and the feeling of loneliness and isolation that come with it," says White on the single, which arrives ahead of a collection of headline east coast shows over the next few months. "Knowing that something isn’t right for you but not being emotionally mature enough to deal with it."

Listen to the single ahead of its release tomorrow below, and catch them on tour at the dates listed underneath that:

Tour Dates:

SUN 28 APR - THE GRACE EMILY, ADELAIDE SA
SAT 4 MAY - THE WORKERS CLUB, MELBOURNE VIC
THU 16 MAY - FRANKIES PIZZA BAR, SYDNEY NSW
