GG Magree Interview

GG Magree Interview

She-jay to the stars, GG Magree talks beats and Yeah Pussy!

What does a day in the life of GG, what does that involve?

Sending snapchats of herself miming songs in the car, drinking her weights worth of H2coco coconut water, pretending her life is a Destiny's Child film clip, getting piggy backs from her side kick and best friend, scanning the web for the latest hip hop beats to hit, hitting the studio AKA the glass case of singing emotion... and a whooooooooooooole lot of BIZNIZZ (obviously..)

You can lay claim to being one of the Sydney’s first she-jay’s. Is it as rad as it looks and how does the she-jay tag sit with you?

Pussy domination has to begin somewhere. There is so much talent around here, I can’t wait for the girls to run the world. Music hits senses of people, no matter if a boy, girl or alien is making it, although I love she she-jay tag, I'm proud of being a lady and think we can do most things better than the guys out there anyway!

You love hip hop and have a rad fashion style. Is this a massive part of GG and do you use it as a source of inspiration?

My style is a part of me. I have been dressing like a teenage boy ever since before I can remember, so thank god shorts and street tee's has now become acceptable! Hip hop is what really gets my booty popping so whenever I am going to hit a gig I put on some of my favorite tunes to get me in the mood.

You’ve shared the stage with some really cool and notable artists. What’s been your favorite gig so far?

This year has been a complete whirlwind. I would have never thought I would be rubbing shoulders with these huge acts, and that they would be so accepting and so encouraging of my work. There's been so many favourite gigs, it's like picking a favorite child, but if I had to I would say the Sydney Future Music festival this year. The whole day was a hilarious experience starting with running late and sprinting through the festival to make the V tent just in time. I ended up playing in the artist commune which was supposed to be a relaxing place for the artists to chill out, before you know the hip hop beats somehow made their way through the speakers and I had Dizzee Rascal next to me, Rudimental and Nervo on the dancefloor, definitely a night I'll never forget.

You recently destroyed Bali, playing at Komune for the Keramas Pro. Probably one of my favorite spots, it seems like that would have been a cool experience with the comp, night surfing and what not. Feel free to share some tales?

It was such an amazing experience. I have some friends on the tour so it was awesome that we got to share offices for the weekend. I've been going to Bali since I was young, it's always been one of my favourite places on the map. I met some amazing people over there, and ended up on adventures with some new friend that i'll now have for life.

You’ve recently started Yeah Pussy! your clothing/T-shirt label. I see you’ve had some influential Sydney sider’s repping the gear (Montana Cox, Matty Sav, Pip Edwards). Can you tell us a bit about how it all came about?

It all started as a personal joke between me and my friends. We used to say "Yeah Pussy" and then one night after numerous vodkas we decided we would get shirts made. I had people asking about them, so I decided to take it to the next level and turn it into my merchandise label. Its been like my little baby and its awesome to have people that are so influential in the fashion industry to get behind it.

5 tracks we all need to be hearing at the moment?

Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz - Rich As Fuck

Grandtheft & Skratch Bastid - Miley

Rufus - Desert Night

Kendrick Lamar - Money Trees

Jay Z - Tom Ford

What’s up next? What do you have planned for the rest of the year/future?

I've just been signed with 360 Agency to do all my Australian bookings which im over the moon about! And I've just been booked to be an ambassador and the exclusive DJ for the first official Fashion Festival in Bali. Back to the sunshine!

Lastly I always tend to ask our new friends what they think a Pilerat is, fire away GG what is one/it?

A big pile of rats, but not the rodents, a sexy group of hood rats waiting to cause trouble.
