Listen: HYLA - Fever Calls Late EP

Perth Shoegazers return with a new EP full of textural, atmospheric rock.

When you listen to HYLA, you can hear their influences immediately. From My Bloody Valentine to The Stone Roses and even at times Disintegration-era The Cure, the band flows effortlessly between these complimentary yet iconic sounds on new EP Fever Calls Late. There are real glimpses of beauty and melody on the EP that flash through the wall of sound, such as the simple repeating notes at the end of instant highlight Weightless Cloud or in the aforementioned Cure riffs scattered throughout that cut above the reverb. Some music you can dance around your room to, screaming the words at the top of your lungs. But HYLA is aiming for a more subtle emotional and cerebral response from their listeners; moody and restrained, this is music to sit alone in the dark and brood to.
