'Tasmania' by Tom Wolff
Normally a man of the written word, Tom Wolff sends us an ode to his current home state.
Tasmania isn’t Australia. It’s part of Australia, but in many ways it’s another world; as if you’ve stepped back in time 10 or 20 years as you first set foot on the island. It is a place of extremes – not only in the natural world but also socially, culturally and politically. I once saw a bumper sticker that said “Save a tree, kill a greenie”. I guess that probably speaks for itself...
These photos follow Tassie over the summer and, my favourite season; autumn. Whether I’m walking around Hobart, hiking in the mountains or surfing on the coast, one thing that blows me away in autumn is the sky. It’s as if it’s just got that little bit more oomph in it or something – could be all that crisp mountain air? One thing’s for sure though, Tasmania has earned itself a special place in my heart.
