"Running a sneaker store has been my dream since I was 19." Pile TV gets a feel for life as a small business owner in retail, spending a day hanging out with Edward Maradona in his premium apparel and sneaker store Cabinet Noir, in a laneway in the CBD in Perth, Western Australia. Edward founded the shop in late 2013, bringing in designers to do an awesome fit-out that mixes an Old World, European feel with modern finishings, with original artworks and an old vintage motorbike adding character. Edward now has a regular stream of customers coming in for the store's selection; which range in style from more dapper apparel to high-end streetwear, as well as magazines, watches, jewellery, and fragrance. Over the course of the day there's stock to unpack, displays to tighten up, and customers to fit. Early evening, Edward brings in his team for a staff meeting and they go over ideas for future ranges, before the Cabinet Noir gang unwinds with a casual drink at local bar The Belayse across the lane.
