Following on from the release of a string of awesome singles including One More Night feat. Flume and Cry Cry Cry, the news we’ve (and by we, I mean KUČKA fans, which, if you’re reading this, you very well may be too, and, if you’re not already, will be after this) all been waiting for has finally been announced, with KUČKA declaring her second album, Can You Hear Me Dreaming? is set for a July 12 release.
Alongside the announcement we’re blessed with glitchy new future pop single, Wasting Time (til the end of the world). An upper tempo slice of bass heavy goodness, Wasting Time gives off a sense of urgency with its deep, bouncy synths and arpeggiated sounds cutting through electro-esque drums and, of course, KUČKA’s iconic and truly singular vocals.
Speaking on her new single, KUČKA (real name Laura Jane Lowther) explains “We’re in a particularly bleak time right now where the algorithm jumps wildly between atrocities, viral animal videos, ads selling us skincare routines, conspiracy theories etc. They’re all intermingling and finding their way into our subconscious constantly. I wrote this song thinking about how we keep on going - often ignoring reality - and feeding the chaos as a means of escape.”
She also describes it as “something you’d listen to with your friends while driving through a burning city”, with these vibes shining through on the awesome music video, created by Natural Fantasy and featuring Laura and her wife / director Dillon Howl as a ghostly duo wandering an apocalyptic landscape as the world around them comes to an end. “I wanted to represent the madness of existing right now and the ways we escape, performing caricatures of ourselves to try to reconnect with what sometimes seems so far away,” says Laura.
