Listen: Drake & Future - What A Time To Be Alive Mixtape

"A little soundtrack for people that need it right now."

This supposed mixtape has been the talk of the hip hop community for weeks now. Drake, Future and their followers have been collectively building momentum for weeks - there's been leaks of potential album artwork blurring Drake's OVO owl with Future's current mixtape art, countdown hoax websites, and suggestive tweets from the rappers themselves. On Friday, Drake added fuel to the rumours fire by announcing at a concert last Friday that "something big was coming" on Sunday. Then, Sunday night (/our Monday morning), the confirmation turned into a reality. Better still - less than two hours before it dropped on iTunes via Apple Music last night, Drake surprised his followers by streaming the hotly anticipated mixtape on his radio show, OVO Sound. So if you're not into buying the mixtape via Apple Music, you can get on board by streaming the 11 track mixtape on his radio show now.

The new tape follows Future’s Dirty Sprite 2 and Drizzy’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, both of which were released earlier this year. The 6 God and the Atlanta rapper, who've previously toured together, recently teamed up on the hit Where Ya At?, and found they got on a treat. According to Rolling StoneDrake originally only went to Atlanta (Future's home) with the intention of laying down "a song or two" with Future. However, it ended up turning into a full-blown project: "I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future, and when you get around Future, it’s like a vortex, that guy can outwork anybody right now. It’s tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it."

Even though there's a lot of beef between Young Money and Cash Money, the mixtape has come out under Birdman's label (Cash Money) and Epic Records. Production credits include Metro Boomin (who executive produced the whole thing), Southside, Boi-1Da, Allen Ritter, Frank Dukes, Neenyo, Noel and Drake's OVO label-partner Noah '40' Shebib. "It's a little soundtrack for people that need it right now," Drake said of the 11-track album, whose tracklist is below.
