Premiere: Perth favourites Old Mervs share the clip to latest single, Wait Around
The clip comes ahead of a very sold-out show this weekend, with plenty more in the pipeline to come.
If you consider yourself a fan of the Perth surf-rock/alt-rock space and haven't gotten across Old Mervs just yet, then you're missing out. The duo - consisting of David House and Henry Carrington-Jones - have really had a breakthrough past 12 months or so, building off the hype of their 2018 debut single Messy Youth with a string of singles that have consistently seen the group one-up themselves with every move: last year's four-peat of Honey, Fake Comedian, Cellphone and Crawlin' being an obvious example of which.
They've also killed it on the live stage too, even in a time where live shows have been a touch hit-or-miss due to ever-changing restrictions. They've toured alongside Death By Denim and supported heavyweights like Sly Withers within the last few months; their ruckus-inducing and energetic live show feeling semi-reminiscent of the early days of Hockey Dad and Dear Seattle - pure, unbridled energy reaching its peak with every song. It's a perfect fit within their charismatic sound too, which really comes to life in the crowd - it's something you'll just have to see to believe.
The duo are playing a sold-out show at Freo.Social this weekend, but before then, we're delighted to premiere the video clip to their latest single Wait Around, which originally came out right at the tail-end of March this year. Directed and edited by Annie Lila Smith, the video clip is a diary of sorts into their time, switching up cinematic shots with a couple of the guys hanging out (and buying Exports, obviously). There's a real suggestion of their feel-good charm amongst the video clip, which really shows in their show and music, but now feels welcomed in the visual aspect of their work too - something which is really exciting to see.
It's a really slick video too (kudos to Annie on that), and in a way, that works well with the more polished side of Old Mervs that the duo show off on Wait Around. "I think this is the first song we’ve solely focused on and spent significant time critiquing it with many opinions of others and I feel it really shows," says Henry on the single.
There's a lot of eyes on Old Mervs at the moment and Wait Around proves why they're worth it, so stick into the video clip as it premieres on Pilerats below, and stay tuned for more to come from Old Mervs before the year's out - these guys are going to be big.
