With the release of their album Watering Dead Flowers, Meanjin/Brisbane-based band VOIID have solidified their presence in the Australian punk scene using their music to challenge societal norms and push equality for all. VOIID guitarist Kate McGuire takes control of Australian Music Is Bloody Great with her current Australian music highlights.

Platonic Sex - Devil's Advocate

501

[Platonic Sex] are an amazing Meanjin band and some of my best friends. I just love their music so much and it is so fun to listen to. This song is so interesting and is one of my standouts from them. It has such a serious message yet is so whimsical, which works for the song so well. Its message is 'just shut up, do the right thing, why are you being an idiot?' I love it.

Nerve Damage - Drip Fed. Misled.

nerve damage

This song just hits you in the face as soon as you listen to it. It has a massive drum intro and a feature from Joel Birch, of the Amity Affliction. Everyone should know this song; everyone should love this song; everyone should know Nerve Damage, they're an incredible band.

The Sweaty Bettys - Skin Deep

503

This is [The Sweaty Bettys] debut release and love the earnest and raw quality to the song. It is very refreshing nowadays to have a band that [presents a demeanor that says] 'Here we are, here's our song. Nothing flashy.' This is straight up, cool punk music. I like it a lot.

Born Free - Blinded

504

This is such a great opening track, it sets the tone perfectly. This band also put out an EP called Misery earlier in the year and you should definitely go check it out. I highly recommend it.

dust - Ward 52

505

I love this band so much. I can't get over the saxophone. I have not been able to get it out of my head since the first time I heard it. They are an incredible live band and incredibly talented boys. If you haven't heard them, you're welcome.

Amyl and The Sniffers - Guided By Angels

506

There's so much to say about this band, obviously they are one of the best bands in the world, period. The space that each member of the band takes up is so perfect. They all connect but never overpower one another. Which is a really underrated component of band dynamics. They're a perfect unit and have so much power.

VOIID - Swallower

This is VOIID's latest single.
