Album of the Week: Acid Arab - ٣ (Trois) | 2023 Week 5

Franco-Algerian group continues to push boundaries on their third album of East meets West traditional and electronic music + new albums from Young Fathers, Shall Not Fade, The Go! Team and more

Everyone’s favourite French-Algerian acid heads are back, as the five piece of Pierre-Yves Casanova, Nicolas Borne, Hervé Carvalho, Guido Minisky and Kenzi Bourras return with album number three, packing 10 distinct and ready to rumble dancefloor destroyers.

Forming 10 years ago in the melting pot of Paris’ underground scene, Acid Arab have gone on to forge a now signature sound that sees them fusing Western-originating electronic music genres like acid house and techno, with Arabic melodies, tones, influences and most prominently on their third album ٣ (Trois), vocals.

Featuring eight diverse vocalists from North Africa, Syria and Turkey, ٣ (Trois) was a truly collaborative effort, with each guest vocalist driving the direction of the composition. “We’re careful not to repeat an identical formula from album to album” says the band. “It’s the actual working relationship with the guest artists which drives us to expand the concept.”

Ever pushing boundaries,, ٣ (Trois) shows Acid Arab at the peak of their powers and leaves no doubt they will continue to innovate and set dancefloors around the world alight.
