Sit back, relax, and turn down with some Simpsonwave

Long story short, it's a comedic take on the Vapourwave craze and it's here to stay.

A couple of years ago, we witnessed the very quick rise (and sequentially, very quick downfall) of vapourwave – a genre of music and general internet aesthetic that took influence to the retro culture of the 80s and 90s, as well as Japanese culture and advertising. The whole A E S T H E T I C era of the internet more or less on the way out, but it’s not going out without a fight, a fight named Simpsonswave.

Simpsonswave came to life last year via vine, and as per most Simpsons-related things, it didn’t take long for reddit and Facebook groups like Simpsons Shitposting and CompuglobalHyperMeganet to grab hold of it and take it to the new level. So what is it? Well, Simpsonswave builds on vapourwave by incorporating heavily distorted, old clips from the show (usually before season 12, generally agreed upon as the ‘glory days’) and layering it over blissed-out vapourwave tunes. With it’s dramatic boost in popularity over the past couple of weeks, the amount of Simpsonswave videos across the internet has jumped substantially – with hours on hours of Simpsons aesthetic now available for viewing pleasure. As for why it’s a thing? - well, I’m not too sure, but it’s probably gonna be over soon as per most things on the Internet, so let’s soak it all up whilst we can.

Check out the Simpsonswave subreddit for more juicy vids, if you're keen for more.
