After releasing her new single of alt-folk and indie-pop vibes, Mama, last week, Eloise Thetford AKA Queenie is back with its visual accompaniment as the music video for Mama premieres on Pilerats today!

A slow building, passionate and vulnerable composition, Mama opens with mellow, understated guitar tones alongside Thetford’s striking and affecting vocals before subtle strings and barely-there percussion enter the mix as the song builds to its epic, driving and powerful peak.

Lyrically, the single sees Thetford acknowledging the sacrifices her own mother made to raise her and her brother as she explained “I struggled a lot after leaving home and trying to navigate the world on my own; this song was a way to express that. It’s basically a thank you in song, telling her not to worry; even though our lives descended into madness and violence and chaos.”

Matching the intimate and touching vibes of the song is the music video that features Queenie, armed with her trusty electric guitar and performing a rendition of Mama in front of a projector playing some vintage, nostalgic family movies. Regarding the video, Eloise said "Marcus Coblyn shot the clip for Mama. The background 8mm footage is pretty special. It was all taken by my Grandad when he, my Grandma, mum and aunty immigrated to the outback in the early 60’s.

The clip shows scenes of my mum and aunty when they were kids and my grandma and grandad who are no longer around. The song itself is an ode to my beautiful mother. She raised both my brother and me by herself and sacrificed so much for us. It’s basically a thank you in song, telling her not to worry; even though our lives descended into turmoil and chaos, we’d always find our feet."
