Interview: Maatzi

I get sent a lot of stuff, because I am (un)fortunately one of those people who work in a "Creative Industry" who happens to (sometimes) be paid for her endeavours. Most of it is rubbish (if you want to book a "Hip Hop Violinist with elements of Dubstep" I can let you know how to do that) though sometimes some of it is So Good, that I want to be able to share it with you (the people), via a manner that isn't fighting the Fucked Up Algorhythm™ that is our Lord & Saviour - Facebook.

Who are you?

Hahaha how does one truly answer such a metaphysically laced question.. Musically I am known as Maatzi, Maatzii of Tokelau.

Where are you from?

Sydney, Australia on Earth and Tokelau in a far away cosmos on the peripherals of a galaxy named Ophiostomataceae but people on Earth have named ULAS J1120+0641.

What makes you unique?

I can rap and design sunglasses good.

What tracks are grabbing you at the moment? 

A producer from Burbank, US I found on Soundcloud called MadBliss - in particular a track named Crazh, oh and a track from Mura Masa called Lotus Eater.

Tell us a little about this release/video.

This is the video for the first single off my forth coming EP, ADVENTURE BEFORE DEMENTIA (out in December through NoGood) - the track is called Bad Pu$$y, when you hear the first few seconds you will understand why. The clip was a collabo with my friend and director Max Hemmings. He has managed to capture the vibe of the track with some of the dark imagery that brings you into the world with HD-quality shots and zany effects.  

What inspired the artwork for this track?

Did a shoot with Jack Mannix and wanted to use one of the shots from it. But ultimately it was inspired by love like everything in our universe.

What else are you working on at the moment?

Working on finishing the second EP and already in the deep-end on the the third. Pending how it pans could have an album on the desktop. And sunglass designing. Key.

Do you have any shows coming up?

Yep I got five before the end of the year. A Sydney and Melbourne EP launch planned and I'm supporting one of my rap heros Sage Francis at the Sydney show. Check out my FB page for all the infos.
