Premiere: Rising Perth rapper Alex Parkman flexes on King of the Block

The WA artist-to-watch kickstarts his 2019 in a big way.

There's a lot of brilliant hip-hop rising out of Perth at the moment, with artists including triple j favourite Arno Faraji leading a pack of promising and exciting names bound to make up a significant part of Australian hip-hop's future. Alex Parkman is well and truly among these names, with a massive 2018 - he made some early waves on triple j Unearthed last year - being followed up with a year ahead that promises his explosion from an underground name to one you should really watch, something his latest single King of the Block is all about. It's fun and high energy with thick bass kicks and swirling melodies surging underneath Parkman's effortlessly-breezy flow, which glides over the top with unmatched ease and confidence. "What I want people to take from this release, is that Alex Parkman is a confident, charismatic musician who makes fun music you can turn up to," he says on the release and it's easy to see what he means - King of the Block is fun yet focused, placing the Zimbabwe-born 21-year-old as a name worth messing with in the twelve months ahead.
