The mysterious phonk rapper unveils his latest gritty track, teasing a full-length release in the works.

Enigmatic New Zealand-based rapper Sxmpra is a frontrunner of the internet phenomenon phonk scene (a rap subgenre derived from dark 90’s Memphis rap soundscapes), continuing his prolific and consistent rollout of thrilling releases this year with; LOCKJAW! 

Emerging in 2018, Sxmpra has quickly become a cult fave in the underground rap scene, keeping his identity a mystery to let his music speak forcefully for him, demonstrated in tracks such as COWBELL WARRIOR! Which has amassed over 54 million streams on Spotify alone. With pounding 808’s and rumbling bass coupled with fast and furious flows, LOCKJAW! see’s harcore and nu-metal elements leach to the bare bones of this gritty rap track. Produced by close friend and collaborator Dozy Doe, Sxmpra explains “Dozy and I created this song with the intention of having a catchy element while still staying true to both of our usual gritty sounds,” continuing “We aimed to create a dark atmosphere paired with a high tempo and aggressive top line that snatches the listener's attention, drawing them in and keeping them intrigued with multiple switch-ups.”

Recently signed to LA record label 10k Projects/Virgin music Australia, Sxmpra is working on his debut full-length release which we can expect to hear more of in the coming year. For now though, be sure to get across the gritty sounds of this emerging rapper with LOCKJAW! - out now below.
