Listen: Joey Bada$$ & Glass Animals – Lose Control

A hot hook up between the English psych-poppers and the US hip hopper.

I’m glad that in 2015 music culture’s evolved to the point where artists from different genres are looking for innovative ways to blend their sounds, because the result is awesome genre-hybrids like this one - between Oxford, UK-based electronic psych-pop act Glass Animals and rapper Joey Bada$$ - are now getting cooked up on the regular.

In Lose Control, Bada$$’s rough, forthright style grinds up against a tripped out, tribal-sounding beat by Glass Animals (slightly murkier than usual for them). The result is a track that’s full of weird awesome energy and an unexpected catchy hook even. There’s an intriguing tension between GA’s more low-key vibes and Bada$$’s vocal intensity.

The two acts created the work together while Glass Animals were in Joey’s hometown of Brooklyn: "We were in New York and the session that was supposed to start at 11am, actually started at 11pm," Joey told Noisey. "I fuck with Dave heavy - we understood each other’s vibe straight away and worked through the night to create this fire. Nobody got hurt."

Glass Animals echoed Joey's sentiments in an official statement accompanying the track: "So excited to share this new track with you all…got into the studio with our friend joey for this one and ended up working together over night ’til we had it nearly done. hope you enjoy, and big love to our bro joey badass. awesome.”
