Chaz samples tear-jerking material from The Notebook on Want.

In late August of this year, talented American-Filipino Toro Y Moi (Chaz Bundick) dropped a free 20 track mixtape entitled Samantha. I might be a little slow on the uptake yet this free dosage of music is of a real high standard with one track in particular sparking my interest.

The tenth installment Want featuring U.S compatriot Washed Out (Ernest Greene) is a beautiful down tempo beat construction, dominated by rattling 808's and airy synthwork. Greene's hauntingly sweet vocals cascade over the top, colliding with eerie church bells until we hit the 1:20 mark and the track takes an interesting and unexpected turn. 'Would you just stay with me...stay with you?!' The distinctive voices of Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) suddenly take centre stage, as we're thrust into a pinnacle scene from The Notebook. We hear Noah throwing his heart on his sleeve, confessing his undying love for Allie irrespective of the disputes and arguments they endure. Beneath the sample, Toro continues with eerie church bells and static, accentuating the angst embedded in the scene. I mean I'm no huge romance fan but when producers throw odd balls like this, they usually tend to work.

Stream Want below and further down cop Ryan and Rachel's emotional chat in full.
