Studio Diary: Siobhan Cotchin - Miss Reckless EP

With her new EP out today, we go behind the scenes with the award winning Boorloo/Perth-based singer-songwriter

We’ve been big fans of Siobhan Cotchin here at Pilerats for a while, first premiering her 2020 singles Do You Know What I Mean and Just The Way It Is, before catching up with her last year to chat about her debut EP, Highways and Heartbreaks.

Since then, the alt-country and indie-rock fusing singer, songwriter and guitarist has had a huge 12 months, winning three WAM awards, playing BIGSOUND (as well as touring all around the country) being the first triple j Unearthed feature artist of this year and a whole lot more.

Now she’s readied her sophomore EP, Miss Reckless, a collection of five songs that sees Cotchin further honing her craft and injecting her music with more of an alt-rock with big, catchy results.

To celebrate the release of Miss Reckless, Cotchin took us behind the scenes with a photo studio diary - have a listen and get to know!

Listening intently....

A lot of time in the studio is spent listening back to what you’ve created, which is a little overwhelming but an important part of the process. I know I look angsty as hell but that’s just my concentration face I promise!

Nap time!

I get soooo tired in the studio and sometimes need a second to just breathe and rest. I try and take a breather whenever I can so I can be more present when I need to do another take or listen to a track.

Impromptu photoshoot with Michael!

It was so lovely having Michael Tartaglia with us for a day to take some pics, I feel super badass in these shots! This EP has a lot of attitude and guts and wanted to emulate that in these pics

Walking Children in Nature.

Being so close to the beach was such a blessing. It was a great way to start the day and recharge. It was a great reset to the nervous system too because DAMN it was cold!

Vocal take with a little assistance....

Don't try this at home kids! I'm not encouraging drinking... But having a shot before a vocal take got the job done! I had to get a little sassy for the song we recorded and Sam Ford said I should have a shot of Jameson (hi please sponsor me thank u). It BURRRRNEEEED but in the best way!
