Premiere: Huey Blue teases his debut album with new single, Running In Circles

It's the next cut from the Australian musician's debut album Friday Anxiety, out June 14th.

Right at the start of this year, we were introduced to rising Byron Bay musician Huey Blue (known for his work with the likes of The Vernons, Layer Cake and Benjamin Brown), who at the time, was breaking out under his own solo project with Outside, a taste of his debut album expected later this year. "It's a luxurious few minutes that starts out big and bold, before settling into a very cruisy dub groove underpinning Trait's commanding, hazy vocal work," is how we described the single on release, before shining a light on his ability to take notes from a wide array of genres - "indie, pop, rock, soul, hip hop and more" - and incorporate them all into his own distinct sound, recognisable for its uniqueness and genre-varying sound.

His latest single, Running In Circles, is an extension of this. Enlisting Ellie Glaves, the track feels nostalgic to this soulful, 70s-esque pop sound - but it's far more complex than that. It incorporates this multi-faceted, multi-layered sound and pulls mannerisms of other genres - subtle indie backings, rock-ready confidence, pop vocal grooves - to create this driving, groove-filled track which teases his debut album in the best of ways. Speaking of which, it's also been revealed that the album - titled Friday Anxiety - will arrive on June 14th, and Huey has a few hints as to what to expect: "I had written the album to flow conceptually, now with the same life – the understanding of these scarce moments that we truly live for, and the inevitable ticking clock that pushes you to make the most of them. It was written to act as a vessel of solidarity – so that these scarce moments don’t seem so fleeting after all, and anytime you put the album on you can escape back to those feelings," he says. "Marrying the soundscape to the content took time, a lot of back and forth between musician friends. However, what was created is completely genuine and reflects the lifestyle I’ve lived over the past two years – learning I can't have it all but at least I’m going to put all my heart into it."
