Live Sessions: JMSN - Need U

Live Sessions: JMSN - Need U

A private basement performance from the Detroit singer and Ta-Ku collaborator.

It's the first Tuesday of the month, which means we have another spine-tinglingly special live performance to share with you. The idea behind this Pile TV series is to show you a different side of talented musicians - not the polished sounds you hear on their recordings or the radio, or the high intensity performance they bring to their live sets, but something more intimate: that 'unrehearsed' feeling that can sometimes feel more real. With Live Sessions, Pilerats hope to bring you closer than ever to the artists you love, by putting you right in the room with them, and no one else - your own private performance.

You might recognise Detroit musician JMSN's voice from the track 'Love Again' off Perth producer Ta-ku's recent EP - we think he's a pretty singular talent, and we jumped on the chance to team up with JMSN for a Live Session while he was in Australia. On the afternoon prior to his gig that evening opening up live music venue Jack Rabbit Slim's, we stole away JMSN and took him deep down into the limestone basement of a former jail in Fremantle, which is now a nightclub - Frayed. JMSN played a moving performance of his track 'Need U', showcasing his effortlessly angelic vocals. Filmmaker Tay brings a touch of the "nouvelle vague" to Fremantle in this one.
