Say hello to Dom Youdan and his lush debut EP, Tigerlily

The five-tracker is out today and pretty bloody wonderful.

London-born, Sydney-based singer/songwriter Dom Youdan announces himself with the release of today's debut EP, Tigerlily. At times delicate, at others swelling and bold, it's a beguiling mash of R&B and electronic/indie-pop that set the scene for his stunning vocals to take centre stage. We sent Youdan a few questions to learn a little more about him, which you can check out after clicking play on Tigerlily, below:

Tell us about about yourself?

My name’s Dom Youdan and I’m a singer/songwriter… I know, it’s never been done before, right? Basically, I’m pouring my heart out over some pretty funky beats. All because I fell for an Aussie girl at my second ever live gig in London and now…here I am. But, it seems to be going rather well.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

I’m loving the space contemporary pop and indie are sitting at the moment, so I want to be a hybrid of the two. Sort of like a-slightly-more-upbeat-male-version-of-Banks…

Production/writing process:

The melody and the lyrics are always at the forefront. I’ll completely write the vocal before I start to figure out the chords and the instrumentation around it. Generally, I’ll create the stripped back version first, and then start messing around with the producer and building up layers. But there is always a destination / a place we’re trying to get to.

Can you tell us about your new EP, Tigerlily?

It’s an EP that’s trying to show the two sides of who I am. It’s raw and emotional at times, but at others it’s quite loose and a lot of fun. At the centre of it, Tigerlily is trying to look at love in a slightly different way, in its elation as well as its insecurities. I find love this immensely personal thing, even though you share it with someone. This EP speaks to that.

Any shows coming up?

I’m just about to announce a Sydney showcase for the EP’s release. So watch this space.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

We’ve just dropped the video for Tigerlily, which I am pumped for. The directors have done an amazing job capturing the sentiment of the song. Now we are looking at the EP and some showcase shows and then…the Ashes, where my face will be permanently glued to the TV. It’s the first time I’ll be in Australia for Christmas and I intend to make the most of it.

Where can we hear more of your music?

‘Tigerlily,’ the title track from the EP will be on all the cool streaming places. I also released my first single ‘Don’t Love Me’ a couple of months back (with a music vid to match). Oh, and I dropped a pretty epic cover of Brandy and Monica’s 90s hit, ‘The Boy is Mine’, which is a whole lot of awesome.
