Get to know Lazer Baby, another killer band all the way from Tassie

They're in Perth for a bunch of shows this weekend celebrating new single So Lonely.

Another day, another killer new band out of Tasmania. Alright so Lazer Baby aren't technically a new band, but they're fresh to our ears, and they've just released a brand new single in So Lonely - their first since last EP LAYZABB a couple of years back. Their sound is a groovy as hell blend of jazz, funk, R&B, soul and more - making it unpredictable but v-enjoyable. If you're in Perth you'll be able to get down with them at a few different shows, which they've listed in the interview down below:

Tell us about yourselves?

We are Lazer Baby, a bit of a mix bag of characters from Hobart that come together over our love of all sorts of music. We originally formed a few years back as a three piece and it’s kind of evolved from there.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

Our songs get referred to as progressive soul and R&B sometimes. They have a bit of everything though as our members have come from a super broad background in music. We’ve all had a little to do with jazz at least, then Sam and Paul have both played metal for years as well for example so the music can go in all sorts of directions at times.

Production/writing process:

A lot of the material is jammed out or Jamie will bring something in. It’s rare to have everyone at the same time so we just gather ideas then refine them for however long it takes.

Any new releases out at the moment?

So Lonely is the newbie!

Any shows coming up?

In Hobart we’re supporting Winston Surfshirt but shortly we’ll be touring in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne in support of the new release. In WA we actually have the most shows of the tour and we’re playing with some amazing acts at The Bird for the launch on the 23rd of November as well as supporting Pow! Negro at Jack Rabbit Slim's on the 25th then one more in Freo on the Sunday!

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

The rest of the year should be fairly busy for us, not that there’s heaps of it left or anything! We’ll have the Hobart launch, we do Boxing day with ALTA at The Waratah usually. Summer also means festival season so we’ll be jumping on board with some of those back home.

Where can we hear more of your music?

SOUNDCLOUD and/or BANDCAMP.
