Focus: Emanuele Ferrari

Emanuele Ferrari is a Milan-based photographer who recently shot a campaign for Etam and answered a few questions for us:

Where are you? What are your immediate surroundings?

In the center of Milan, in front of a wide park... The Milanese version of central park :)

What have you been doing/working on recently?

The latest works? Etam Campaign and Wu Magazine Cover.

Please describe a typical day.

Alarm clock, coffee, music, quick check of my social profiles, a look at the newspapers, coffee again... one look at the web. If I have to take a service, I meticulously settle all my stuff and I go in the studio. Many photographs, some talk with a stylist, Mua and model... is work, yes, but I enjoy it and I need to put all of them ease. Lots of music, lots of pictures, the day flies away. The evening is all for my family: my wife and my son.

How would you describe your work? And who (or what) are your biggest creative influences?

It's the best job in the world. Joking aside, I think it's really something special that allows you to express yourself immediately. It is a modern form of art. Without disturbing the past, my reference points are Purienne, Jason Lee and Parry Viktor Vauthier.

Three favourite spots on the web to browse?

Whatsapp, fsstoppers and macrumors: To chat, stay updated about social, and mac. Obviously I watch all morning my favorite magazines and the tumblr of my favorite photographers.

What is something new you have noticed or learned recently?

You never stop learning and discovering new things, new methods, ideas, inspirations, in life as in photography.

What in your opinion makes a beautiful image? What elements need to exist in a moment for the image to be successful?

Too relative to give the rules... A perfect image may not be beautiful and imperfect. The beautiful image is the one that remains impressed, that captures the attention, for a detail or a special emotion. 

What do you enjoy most about your hometown? Just in general and the specific things you enjoy doing.

The weather, the people, the art, the food and football :)

Do you listen to music when you are shooting? Is it for you or the model? Or both?

Yes, for both it is a way to create atmosphere and break a silence which in some cases could be embarrassing.

What’s next? What have you got planned for the rest of the year and what do you want to achieve in the near future?

I have a number of projects in the making, photographic campaigns. The goal is to grow, improve... Continue to study and look for inspiration everywhere.
