Young Thug announces name change to JEFFERY ahead of mixtape release

And he jumps on a new Migos remix to offer a unique taste of JEFFERY mixtape.

Young Thug, one of hip hop's most divisive and uniquely talented acts, is currently preparing latest mixtape JEFFERY for release, with fans anticipating the album's release this coming Friday, August 26, according to the latest rumblings from Thugger's camp (coincidentally sharing a supposed release date with the second album of frequent Young Thug collaborator Travi$ Scott). Self-titled, based on Young Thug's birth name, the mixtape has been heavily teased by the Atlanta star, and fans were finally given a taste of what to expect over the weekend with the release of Elton featuring Wyclef Jean.

Below are a couple of tracks from JEFFERY Thug released over the weekend, but today comes news that not only will the JEFFERY mixtape drop this Friday, he'll also no longer be known as Young Thug, rather the name of the mixtape and his given name, JEFFERY:

Of the tracks we've heard most recently, the first is a trap exploration in the sounds of reggaeton, exquisitely balancing the talents of both Wyclef Jean and Young Thug, formulating one of the latter's best releases for his career, thus far.

Of course, that wasn't all that Young Thug had to offer fans waiitng on the release of JEFFREY, as the rapper joins fellow Atlanteans Migos for the remix of their single Cocoon, initially released earlier in the year. A vastly different sound to Thug's collaboration with Wyclef Jean, the Cocoon remix finds Thugger and the triple threat of Migos weaving their way through dark, piano led production. Hear the Cocoon remix below, and watch for the release of JEFFREY hopefully sooner rather than later.
