Premiere: Echo Omen - Moojar feat. Mathas & Koondarm
Take a first watch of the stunning new music video for Great Southern W.A. artist's new single of atmospheric hip hop featuring local fave MC Mathas & Noongar language choir Koondarm
Living and creating in the picturesque surrounds of Denmark, W.A. is Matthew Bracknell, who as Echo Omen crafts soulful, atmospheric & beat-driven sounds like those heard on his dope new single, Moojar. Teaming up with long-time fave Boorloo-based MC Mathas, and local Noongar language choir, Koondarm, Moojar is an enchanting slice of spiritual hip hop, and alongside it’s gorgeous music video, is premiering on Pilerats today.
A dedication to the titular Moojar tree that Bracknell has admired since his youth, the significance of this natural beauty was further revealed to him upon studying the Noongar language and joining the Koondarm choir. In a perfect meeting of inspiration, MC Mathas had grown up watching his father paint watercolours of the Moojar tree, tying it all together.
An organic and lush production of chilled, head-nod inducing beats, Moojar features the use of field recordings gathered from nature by Bracknell alongside the prominent use of kalimba to push the track forward, while subtle guitar and warm synths pull you in. Leaving plenty of room for vocals to shine, Mathas’ visceral, storytelling raps drive the verses while Bracknell and Koondarm’s layered harmonies provide the sing-a-long inducing chorus.
Moojar is the latest taste of Echo Omen’s forthcoming album New Moon, Ancient Eye, set for a February release.
