Star Slinger drops a 12-track, sample-infused release out of nowhere
Samples, samples and more samples!
Always an enigmatic creature online, Manchester's Star Slinger (Darren Williams), who appears to be making music out of Slovenia at present has dished out another sample filled treat. The treat is in the form of a 12 track Sampler entitled Volume 2. If you're a fan of bubbly electronica and cuts from times past you will find this an absolute delight!
The collection opens with the appropriately titled Theme For Volume 2. A soulful party of sorts, founded on a languid house beat, the track is littered with slashes of vocal from what I can imagine are straight off 80's dance floors. A perfect opener of groovy proportions! Next comes Wagwan Tho, slowing things down just a tad Slinger founds this one on a hip hop melody with stark high hats and thick drums. What's brilliant here is his concoction of vocal samples from two very different time periods, a hoodlum from the UK against a sweet female from the 60's. A recipe from heaven, in my opinion.
About the middle mark of the release we get Party Van, a 6 minute house number littered with techno chords and clapping electric drums. If you'd lost interest at any point before this piece, you'll surely be all ears again! The echoed cries of the female in this tune are almost entrancing. Following on from here comes Pain, a soulful smack in the face. Choir calls loop over a solid rap beat as a vintage voice tell us to forget, you guessed it...all that pain. This one's for a day indoors while it teems down outside.
A highlight nearing the back end of the release is People Come Together. Based on glittering keys and a crooning male vocal we're taken on a warm, dreamy journey which ends in some interesting accordion sounds. Once again, Williams proves his ability to continually create music that makes us smile.
We're now in a time where the right samples reign supreme and Star Slinger's Volume 2 is jam packed with some of the best!
