Some A+ remixes dropped this week - here's your chance to catch up

Get up to speed with everything that dropped over the Australia Day long weekend.

You gotta admit - it's been a pretty laid-back week this week. Thanks to Tuesday's Australia Day public holiday and the ability to chuck a sickie on the Monday, this weekend just gone has been a hazy one at that, with everyone's Australia Day weekend benders just starting to catch up with them now. One industry that doesn't stop is the music industry, and over the past week, particularly in Australia, there's been some really amazing, unique remixes that have dropped with no fan-fare, with people too busy cracking open their next tinnie to scour through soundcloud and check out what's dropped lately. Luckily for you guys, we've got your back - here's six remixes that's been released over the past few days, ready for your listening pleasure.

Anna of the North - The Dreamer (Feki Remix)

New week, new Feki. Following on from his promise of a bigger and better 2016, Brisbane wunderkind Feki has announced his debut Australian tour and his first piece of work for 2016 - a remix of Norway vocalist Anna of the North's single The Dreamer. The Dreamer showcases Anna's effortless vocal talents with a layered, moody pop single that oozes with emotion. Feki builds on this, by incorporating some real dark, heavy sounds into the remix with a rolling bassline and crashing cymbals dominating over Anna's vocals and a light synth melody. Anna herself sums it up pretty well, telling Nylon why she likes Feki's re-do of the single - "The Dreamer is already a sad song, but I like that Feki's remix is darker. He makes it ok to cry at the club".

Banoffee - With Her (Roland Tings Remix)

One thing that's always impressed me about Roland Tings remixes is his ability to take literally any genre of music and add his own charm to it. Whether it be our own Catlips and her single Fade, or singles by Chet Faker, Bag Raiders or Seekae, you can be assured that Roland Tings will somehow incorporate his well-known groove into the original's beat. His remix of Banoffee's With Her is no different, seeing Roland add a touch of house to the single's radio-friendly pop vocal work. A searing bass groove, rolling percussion and soft synth flow beneath Banoffee's stand-out vocals, creating something club-ready yet at the same time, something laid back and relaxed.

Porsches - High (JOY Remix)

Although well-known for her soaring vocal capabilities, JOY is a pretty bad-ass producer too. Her latest effort is a largely instrumental remix of Porsches' High, which sees the singer-songwriter add a complex, almost future-bass-esque vibe onto the single. Amongst snippets of the original's falsetto is roaring synth and bass, creating something powerfully up-beat yet moody, a combination I haven't heard in a remix for a long time. The song is a free download too, which makes it even better.

Porsches - High (Commandeur Remix)

Following up from JOY's re-do of High, comes former Panama drummer and now solo musician Tim Commandeur, who unleashes his own, percussion-soaked flavour onto the blissed-out original. Commandeur's take on High is a more melodic, dancefloor-ready version of the single, with a house-infused sound that rattles between bass hits and echoing vocals. With the addition of his High remix to his already highly-recommendable catalogue, I can personally assure you that Commandeur is a producer who is on the rise.

Hermitude - Midnight Terrain (Droptail Flip)

Droptail is one to watch, trust me. We were originally introduced to the young gun with his sensational remix of What So Not's Gemini, which he has now followed up with a remix of Hermitude's under-rated release, Midnight Terrain. With building drums and synth to kick things off, Droptail's Midnight Terrain launches head-first into banger-mode, intensifying into an exhilarating synth and bass-heavy drop. He then takes back a notch for a lengthy bridge, before launching back into it for round two. Massive.

ATB - Flash X (Rusty Hook Flip)

Veering away from Australia for our last remix, we head to France and the quickly building collection of work from Rusty Hook. A producer quickly making some serious waves within the electronic world, Rusty Hook has become a heavily mentioned artist in the trap/future-bass game since his unexpected flip of t.A.T.u's All The Things She Said. His remix of ATB's Flash X is equally impressive, with the French producer taking the original's mainstream EDM vibe and flipping it into a future-bass sound, with the input of 808 stabs and thunderous synth. It's unexpected and unique, a thing we're really digging about Rusty Hook and his production work.
