Premiere: Evan Klar steps up for a big 2020 with a new single, I Do

The Melbourne-via-Singapore-via-Perth musician has become a go-to name in collaboration over the last few years, something that's extending into his 2020 ahead.

Even if you're unfamiliar with the name itself, chances are you've come across a track Evan Klar has lent his Midas touch to over the last few years. His 2017 debut album Deepest Creatures is packed full of playlist-friendly electronica and pop, while his work with SŸDE - on their 2018 single Follow Me - gave the Melbourne-via-Singapore-via-Perth musician a glimpse of widespread popularity, something he's seeking to build to once again in the year ahead. Then, there's the work he's done behind-the-scenes, self-establishing Melbourne's Fall Back Studios as a place of friendly collaboration in songwriting and production.

Now, as we head into the new year - and new decade - ahead, Evan Klar is teetering on the cusp of something remarkable. He's kicking it off today, premiering his first solo work since his debut album with I Do: a track that sets Evan Klar up perfectly for the dominative year planned - one that he deserves too - both in front of the limelight and behind-the-scenes.

Arriving as the first single from a forthcoming EP scheduled later in the year, it's a track that displays exactly why Klar is such a rising force amongst bright-lit electro-pop; strong, earworming hooks making themselves known above a low-key production that sways with an almost R&B-esque groove, occupying a genre-ambiguous sound somewhere in between shattering electronic, charming pop, and soothing, gentle-cradling R&B. "I Do was written last year about a fictional character who breaks free from her past and moves on in search of a better life," he says on the track. "Very recently the song has become relevant to me and helped me through a rough patch. I hope it can do the same for others in this tough time."

As mentioned, it's a sign that Evan Klar isn't here to mess around in the twelve months ahead, with a new EP arriving later in the year just the start. In the behind-the-scenes songwriter/producer role, for example, Evan Klar's expertise is set to touch forthcoming releases from Kate Miller-Heidke, Austen, Essie Holt and more - a sign that there's something remarkably special going on here, and a sign that Evan Klar is a real exciting person to watch as the new year unfolds.
