Meet Teischa and her beautiful, emotionally-charged new single Midnight Hour
The Perth-based musician dazzles on her sensational, self-titled EP - out now.
Perth-based musician Teischa is someone we've featured on the blog before, notably in collaboration form alongside Morgan Bain and St. Albion. Her self-titled, debut EP was just released and for the lack of better words, it's bloody stunning. Teischa sees the emerging singer-songwriter break out of her shell with three brilliant singles, each pulsing with this raw, emotional power that gives the EP this personal edge lacking in many others. The EP's leading single Midnight Hour is the stand-out of the three-part release, gathering this aforementioned emotional energy and condensing it into four-ish minutes worth of gripping pop music that feels very carefree with its summery production, yet quite intense and moody. To celebrate the EP and its accompanying lead single, we sent Teischa a couple of Q's for all of us to get to know her that little bit better before she takes over Australia - and the world - with her gripping, brooding pop sound.
Tell us about yourself?
I live in Perth, WA, but spent my childhood/most of my life in Phuket, Thailand. When I was eleven my little brother decided he wanted to learn how to play the guitar and I thought that was a really cool idea (I just wanted to be like Avril Lavigne then, so of course) so we both learnt guitar by watching a lot of youtube videos, and I did the same with piano and singing. A little after that I became interested in songwriting and have been hooked ever since.
What’s the vibe music-wise?
I like to call it moody pop. Dark piano chords mixed with big, soulful vocals, yum.
Writing process?
It's different every time! Lately I've been loving collaborating and co-writing with some amazing writers, but usually, the process starts with me sitting at my piano in my room and playing around with chords and melodies.
Can you tell us about your new single, Midnight Hour?
I wrote Midnight Hour with my producer Styalz. It was actually the first track we ever worked on together. The song is about that moment late at night as you’re laying in bed about to fall asleep but your mind can’t rest. I think because of how reliant and attached we are to technology these days, sometimes those down moments of calmness, away from our fast-paced everyday lives and constant alerts on social media, can actually be uncomfortable. So our minds want to process thoughts and feelings that they might not have had the chance to before, which for me sometimes, makes it almost impossible to fall asleep.
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
Lots more writing, live shows, and hopefully some more music out soon!
Where can we hear more of your music?
