With her debut album set for a 2024 release, AYLA follows up her November single Should've Been Fine with a gorgeously engrossing music video, premiering on Pilerats today. An epic cut of EDM-inspired pop, Should've Been Fine sees AYLA in an introspective mood, exploring past choices and “what ifs”, set to a soundtrack of triumphant synths and pounding percussion.
Speaking on the inspiration for the song, AYLA explains "I wrote this song about being in love with my best friend, who loved me back, but we knew it wouldn't work out. 'Holding off on happiness cause some stupid little things didn't line up' is a line in the chorus that pretty much sums it up! I was really feeling like life was too short to let anything get in the way of two people loving each other and being together".
Not about to be outdone by the music is the new visual accompaniment for Should’ve Been Fine that saw AYLA team up with filmmaker and friend Jayke during a particularly hectic time in her life. AYLA expands on this saying "We broke into my burnt-down house at night to start filming. Yep, my house burnt down, so destruction was a bit of a theme in my life at the time of making this track." In some emotional scenes, AYLA explores what remains of her former home, complete with soot covered floors where she used to walk with a partner, she now walks alone.
Already having an exciting 2024, AYLA’s new music video comes off the back of supporting Sahara Beck on her All Attention On Your Emotions Tour for three shows, while she now turns her attention to a support slot for Little Green in March (details below).
